Information on Swaddling Babies
A recent article in Pediatrics* concluded that babies who sleep in swaddling wraps get twice as much REM sleep and sleep longer than other babies. The researchers used a very lightweight swaddle blanket to tightly wrap the babies. They also concluded that swaddling makes it easier to place babies on their backs, which studies have shown to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
Another recent study in JAMA** (the Journal of the American Medical Association) further concluded that babies sleeping in 2 or more layers of clothing (excluding a diaper) had more than a 6 fold increase in the risk of SIDs. This study also recommended swaddling babies in a lightweight blanket. The Solana Swaddle Wrap™ is the only baby blanket on the market to conform to these current Physician Recommendations.

Always follow these important steps when using the Solana Swaddle Wrap:
- Always place infants on their backs to sleep - especially a swaddled baby who should never be placed on their stomach.
- Medical studies have proven that swaddling helps to calm and soothe babies, and to help prevent SIDS. We recommend that you discuss all aspects of swaddling with your pediatrician to determine suitability of these methods with your baby.
- The Solana Swaddle Wrap is designed to help prevent overheating; however, continue to always use your discretion about overdressing babies in warm rooms.
- Ensure there is no fabric on or near to a sleeping baby's face. Swaddle them from the top of their shoulders and downwards, per the below instructions.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: In purchasing the Solana Swaddle Wrap, you agree to consult with your physician about the suitability of using this product with your baby. You agree to use the blanket as directed and you further agree to release, indemnify and hold Solana Babywear, all is officers, employees, and this website from all liability for your use or misuse of this product.
How to Swaddle:
Step One
Place blanket on a flat surface and fold down a corner a few inches. Place the baby on her back so her head rests just above the fold.
Step Two
Hold right arm against her side and pull the blanket very tightly and across her body – tuck under her back.
Step Three
Straighten her left arm against her side and bring the bottom corner straight up over her arm. The bottom corner should reach just over her left shoulder.
Step Four
Still holding the blanket very taut, pull the blanket down a smidge.
Step Five
Keeping that smidge in place, grab the last free blanket corner, pull it straight out to your right. Bring it up and across the body tightly – it should go around like a belt.
